The Opportunity

Here, the opportunity was to deliver a brand new 6,000m2 refrigerated warehouse in only four months. The Florette chilled salad production and distribution facility in Lichfield was expanding to meet the growing demand for high quality fresh produce. A key element of the Florette customer proposition is freshness – with the need for foods, such as salads, to be kept in optimum conditions to stay fresh and crisp throughout its journey to the supermarket.

Hence the need for a new, state-of-the-art refrigerated storage facility.

The Opportunity

Chain previously fitted suffered a short life (2 years) due to wear elongation and roller wear. Lubrication of the chain is difficult due to temperature and risk of contamination. As the chain wear increases, product quality is affected due to an increased gap between the conveyor flights.

The Opportunity

Following an audit and review of our customers steam raising plant and pre-treatment, we identified a potential to reduce gas consumption and subsequent costs. We issued our customer with a report detailing their current chemical and pre-treatment regime and proposed we install a reverse osmosis unit to ultimately improve steam quality, reduce boiler blowdowns and subsequently reduce gas consumption. During this survey we took into consideration their current fuel costs, chemical costs, blowdown percentage and condensate return.

The client was looking to utilise adi’s significant experience of designing bespoke pipework systems to ensure that the state of the art plant installation was operational within a tight budget and deadline. adi designed an ingredient delivery system that exceeding product flow rates where other engineering services providers suggested that the client's project deliverables could not be achieved.

Nestlé Halifax was a new customer for aid Process Pipework, when it successfully tendered to install a new autonomous CIP caustic pipe cleaning process to replace the old manual one. This was based on their reputation for quality process pipework design and installation, coupled with their knowledge and track record within the food manufacturing industry.

Project Dove is a £200M investment by Nestlé to centralise all coffee manufacture in the UK to a single site in Tutbury, Staffordshire.

In order to link up all the high-pressure steam and heating facilities for the buildings, a vast amount of pipework was required. In late 2013, adi Process Pipework successfully tendered for this work. For the first time in the UK, all forms of Nestlé’s coffee production, including freeze-dried, spray dried and pod technology has been brought together.

The client was looking to utilise adi as a design house to provide flow rate and structural calculations as well as supporting the process engineering design and providing general arrangement drawings for local fabrication partners.
