Inspiring the future of engineering

Inspired by a dream to create a self-delivered ‘one-stop-shop’ for engineering services to the manufacturing sector, Alan Lusty founded what is now known as adi Group in 1990.

The business began with the creation of adi Electrical, supplying installation and testing services for a number of markets within the manufacturing industry. The vision at its inception, which remains today, is to add an additional engineering service to the business every 12-18 months. 

Beginning his career as an apprentice at the age of 16, Alan has always endeavoured to inspire the future of both engineering and engineers. Not only did this mean adi Group employed apprentices from early in its trading history, it also led to the launch of The Pre-Apprenticeship Programme in 2016.

The programme was developed to not only provide budding engineers with inspiration to pursue this career path, but for the twelve 14 year-olds chosen per year, it mentors them in the core, hands on mechanical and electrical skills required. Following graduation and bearing an official qualification two years later, this unique programme leads to opportunities not only in adi Group, but also in the wider engineering marketplace.

Now, adi Group delivers bespoke projects all over the country and to a variety of industries, including food and beverage, automotive and manufacturing without a break in supply chain.

The Group now has in excess of 23 specialist divisions and nearly 750 employees, self-delivering most of the key engineering requirements of the manufacturing and built environment.
