Seamless Laboratory Expansion for Indivior: Maximising Capacity While Minimising Disruption
The Opportunity
Indivior required an expansion of their existing early-stage chemistry laboratory to increase capacity. An adjacent, underutilised laboratory space was identified as an ideal location due to its proximity and existing infrastructure. However, a key challenge was to complete the expansion while maintaining business-as-usual (BAU) operations and minimising disruption to surrounding operational labs. Indivior also wanted to reduce their carbon footprint, with a focus on assessing and improving the efficiency of their nitrogen generation system.
The Solution
adi Life Sciences provided a full-service solution, undertaking RIBA Stages 3 & 4 design and supplementary Stage 1 & 2 feasibility studies to evaluate the site’s suitability for modification. Using Autodesk® Revit® for BIM and Revizto™ for immersive collaboration, the team engaged closely with stakeholders and end users to co-develop the design. Sustainability was a key consideration, adi facilitated the reuse of 70% of the existing lab furniture, working with Indivior and a new supplier to adapt it to the new layout. The team also redesigned the nitrogen generation system to reduce energy consumption and retained the old unit as a backup.
What did we deliver?
Design Services:
- Principal Designer Role (CDM)

Key challenges included meticulous planning to maintain uninterrupted BAU operations, safe and efficient service isolations and recommissioning, and integrating new systems with legacy infrastructure. A proactive approach to project management, including Look-Ahead Schedules and Plan-Do-Review cycles, ensured ongoing alignment and issue resolution throughout.

The Outcome
The project was delivered on time and within budget, without compromising on quality or operational continuity. The refurbished laboratory now provides Indivior with state-of-the-art capabilities in a modern and energy-efficient environment. This successful expansion not only enhances Indivior’s operational capacity but also supports their sustainability goals by reducing energy usage and waste. The collaborative and forward-thinking approach adopted by all parties highlights adi Life Sciences' expertise in delivering complex, high-specification projects with precision and minimal disruption.
