The Opportunity
To undertake a full site light replacement project from conventional T5 fluorescent lamps to LED energy savings luminaires in the M&S Castle Donington Distribution Centre. The site is 900,000 sq ft of state-of-the-art technology spread across three chambers and five floors, making it one of the largest and most efficient sites of its kind in the UK, with around two million single orders processed a week. The challenge facing adi was to safely and efficiently undertake this work around a fully operation facility, including working through peak periods.
The Solution
Working under strict CDM health and safety principles and techniques, we developed a safe dynamic working plan to replace some 4,492 light fittings whilst allowing operations, traffic, and people movement to continue without interruption or inconvenience. The programme took 26 weeks from start to finish and we methodically worked through the DC with fine detail planning, full collaboration and coordination of working environments, including the removal and recycling of old luminaires in conjunction with the manufacturer.
The Benefits
This successful project delivers ongoing energy savings, with return on investment achieved in under two years thanks to the way adi implemented the safe and efficient change management plan
