The Opportunity
In association with one of our strategic partners, the adi Group helped create and upgrade state of the art aircraft engine test rigs. Our track record and successful business relationship with Rolls Royce Aerospace spans over many years and on numerous projects. The test rigs are predominately to test engine and aircraft parts for civil and military aircraft. The rigs allow the Rolls Royce Aerospace operator to test the effectiveness of the engine’s pumps, actuators, accelerators and seals, prior to its installation on the aircraft. The rigs simulate the control systems in the engine to see how it performs and reacts to certain tests. Approximately 30% of our work with Rolls Royce Aerospace relates to new rigs and 70% is upgrading existing rigs.
The Solution
Alongside our strategic partner, we work together to design, build and pre-operationally test these individual rigs at the adi Group facility in Kings Norton, Birmingham. The work involves several adi disciplines, and the total package of work is managed and coordinated by adi Projects. adi Mechanical is tasked with building the steel framework and incorporating any specific mechanical design improvements; adi Electrical creates and installs the electrical systems, including the wiring looms and adi Automation installs the control systems, having designed the wiring circuits. Our strategic partner supports the hydraulic pressure and fuel systems, software development and critical test validation processes.
